Ying’s kitchen

(Ying’s kitchen: Singapore)

I remember passing this in the car whilst I was visiting Singapore during Spring festival, it made me laugh then and I wanted to get a closer look. As with all these brief breaks, there is never enough time to do absolutely everything, so silly spontaneous visits – like this could have been – just fall by the wayside. Perhaps next time (I count on there being a second chance to visit Singapore sometime) I can sample the delights of Ying’s kitchen first hand.

Ying’s dad sent me this image to pair with the studio shot I took in Shanghai – you can see it here, http://china.analoguegirl.co.uk/yings-studio/. It’s a shame that Rosie or Rou Xi is not so common in Asia, otherwise I could be standing outside ‘Rosie’s Bar’ or ‘Rosie’s Rib Shack’. Not only does Ying have a studio in Shanghai and a kitchen in Singapore, he even has a historical twin in Shanghai, as you might recall: http://china.analoguegirl.co.uk/like-your-lookalike/. Perhaps we are only scratching the surface of Ying’s places – there could even be one in Suzhou that we could patronise – watch this space.

Sorry if you missed me over Easter, Ying took a three-day weekend as yesterday was the annual tomb sweeping festival here in China. It is usually counted as a day off for most Chinese workers and is a chance to go home to make offerings to their ancestors and visit their families. We were far too busy making plans, practicing Mahjong (just for an hour or so, I promise) and taking time out to relax so I’ll update you with extra posts over the following days.
