Xixi eyes

(Dragon Boats in the Xixi wetlands park: Hangzhou, China)

In the wetlands park there were plenty of exhibitions, shops, restaurants and local displays. This was one exhibition room with dragon boats on show, though unfortunately it didn’t make for a particularly good photograph. The boats themselves are saved in this glossy condition for the annual dragon boating festival. Many places put on shows and events, culminating in huge boat races across lakes or down canals.

In the wetlands park there was an opportunity to see silk worms spinning silk fibres and to see items being made locally. Time constraints didn’t allow, but we did see sweet making, fishing and local handicrafts in abundance. I bought a set of rather fetching silk scarves for presents (and of course an obligatory extra for myself) in a shop whilst I was with Ying’s mum. I’m sure she made a few purchases too, despite insisting that she doesn’t enjoy shopping…
