Wetlands weapon

(Exhibition at the Xixi wetlands park: Hangzhou, China)

The wetlands park that I visited with Ying’s mum was so much more than parkland, it was a network of canals, complete with boats, a sanctuary for flora and fauna and had the occasional café, shop and gallery space. This (poorly taken) photograph comes from one of them. In a historical exhibition, I did ask Ying’s mum but she confirmed that this ‘weapon’ is as unfamiliar to her as to me. One must assume it is suited to a variety of moves and uses;

poking an assailant in the eye,
prodding cats out of trees,
killing vampires (with the stake),
pretending to be on the phone,
waving around corners, furniture and doors to provoke fright,
practicing nail treatments,
as a spare hand in case one is lost in battle
and surprising people in a host of unseemly ways.

Any more?

(try to keep it clean, people)

To update you, I’m steaming some char siu buns right now in my Glasgow kitchen and I have finally completed the tasks I set myself before leaving Glasgow. My taxi is booked for the morning and my boarding pass printout is folded inside the sleeve of my passport. I am ready to travel again, and at least I am prepared materially and documentally* if not mentally yet.

* I am aware that this is not a word, but it made the sentence more concise. Documentally also sounds nice.
