Under the weather

(Anna standing next to a car: Edinburgh, UK)

A few days ago, that was a car, but today it is simply a mound of frozen water. The snow here is definitely double the depth of any in Glasgow. I spent yesterday morning with my Gran in Glasgow – after she made a prediction that the snow would “never ever go away”, I did notice that the snow was substantially deeper there than inner city Glasgow. The roads were hardly gritted at all and the old snow that has been stamped away by hundreds of people where I stay still remains with my Gran.

I caught a train to Edinburgh yesterday afternoon in order to set up this ‘All of the Above’ exhibition that three friends and I have been planning. It opens tonight, despite the weather – though it was touch and go. The train journey was delayed, of course (travel chaos, etc. etc.) and when I did finally make it to Edinburgh, trudging with a trolley of work, ski gear and spare wellies was verging on painful. Even where snow had been cleared, there is still a layer of moist sludge that I had to drag my wheeled trolley through. I chose one with decent wheel clearance and all my work was wrapped up in plastic bags inside it, but I was still panicking that it would all be soaked. Thankfully, when I had made it across many unfamiliar Edinburgh streets, I was allowed on the bus as the penultimate passenger – it was stuffed completely full. I had to cling to the driver’s booth door to stop myself (and my many effects) from spilling all over the floor. Eventually, without too much drama, the busdriver pointed out my stop and the exhibition setup could commence. It was been a demanding day and I’ll be delighted, finally, to see our plans come to fruition. Till tomorrow…
