(View of the Horizon complex from the Jinji lake, Suzhou)

Finally! The journey here seemed to take an aeon – by some error, I had managed to be the only childless passenger in the childrens row of plane seats. I’ve never seen the portable cradles in which the poor beggars are forced to spend the flight but now I am acquainted with them intimately. The one year old boy seated just above my right knee, or behind it, for the entire flight was the most restless and noisy child I have ever encountered, though he was obviously struggling with the confined space. My mother would likely comment that I was much worse. He cried incessantly and once he finally fell asleep, he had stolen enough of my nerves that I was unable to join him. He was at the stage of infancy where no words appear; communication is not dissimilar to a baby bird, squawking, squealing and chittering to express terror, boredom, hunger and a range of other feelings. But I made it back and to celebrate, we had dinner and then I slept for thirteen hours.

These rather playful turrets with the red peaks are the periphery of the Horizon complex. Within the various heights of these pointed towers, our flat sits on the third floor of an eighteen storey block. This view is taken from the lake, about a fifteen minute walk away. Apologies for this late post, the sleeping was necessary and has set my day back somewhat.

  1. I accidentally ended up in that special baby row in the plane when I went to Canada! I was very confused and concerned with airline perhaps thought I was with child! Very noisy and very facinating area of the plane that, crazy baby cradles!
