Sproing!
(Long shadows in Kelvingrove Park: Glasgow, Scotland)
Finally, I think it is Springtime here. After some unseasonably warm weather last week, like a roving patch of sun on a windy, cloudy day, things have returned very much to their moist, cold default. However, I took advantage of the slight sunburn risk by taking a few photographs of the park in all its Springtime glory. All of a sudden, the trees are ripening with blossom and leaves have begun to unfurl on the trees. On those summery days last week, it felt odd to be surrounded by bare, brown branches, yet sitting on the grass in sunglasses.
I like this particular shot because you can see how gloriously blue the sky is, and how intense the sunshine. There is something about a little bit of sunshine in a grey week that just lifts everything, makes any activity seem better, more rewarding. Instead of cycling home, head down, teeth clenched together against driving wind, rain, sleet, etc., I actually preferred to de-saddle and walk, drinking in the afternoon light. Last weekend, the clocks went forward, so now the evenings are lighter and the days already feel less crushed by the dark. I’m looking forward to this winter finally being completely over and for sunshine to begin spilling through the curtains every morning. I can dream…
