(‘China meets Rosie’ with sparklers: Suzhou, China)
Later on Sunday night, Ying produced some sparklers for the walk home and we engineered this shot. It is supposed to read ‘china meets rosie’ but some of it got a bit lost, especially the ‘s’ of ‘meets’. I was pleased with our effort regardless. What I like most about this image is the bonus of the fireworks behind me – these are enormous explosions that jarred the sternum. Ying and I had to shout instructions over the din to take this photograph.
Just a short post today as I’m feeling decidedly under the weather. I think my recent early mornings and late nights, as well as being cold at the weekend have caught up with me. My throat is full of broken glass and my sinuses are making clicking noises so I’ve been drinking hot water and feeding myself congee (rice porridge). I have been nestled in a nest of duvet all day like an enormous, sniffling hamster, it sounds like fun but I’d rather be clad in something other than pyjamas and actually eating real solids.
I am too ‘heaty’ and I must cool my heat with various foods. Rice is cooling. I am aware of the benefits, delicious variations and subtleties of congee as a meal but I associate it with illness, therefore rendering it unpalatable to me. Perhaps by tonight I will have improved enough to have a more substantial and interesting repast.

Aww Rosieposie, I’m sad that you’re ill but I’m amused that you think of yourself as a giant sniffly hamster.. too cute.. Magnus is moping about the flat all man-flued up, there is nothing more fun for company I can tell you. Currently I am eating an interesting blend of “stuff that’s leftover in the fridge”, about as palatable as plain rice.
