Rented outfit
(In my rented outfit at Doi Suthep temple: Chiang Mai, Thailand)
Since a friend of the family was taking Pete and me on a private tour of Chiang Mai, we hadn’t properly prepared for the places we were to visit. By the time we reached the temple, we were growing hungry (again) and the light and warmth of the afternoon was failing a little. We paid for our tickets to forgo climbing the stairs and took the cable car up the steep incline to the temple itself. Once we arrived there I was being tutted at by a wrinkled lady who was thrusting fabric at me. It hadn’t occurred to me until we alighted from the cable car that I might be less than appropriately attired for a temple, so she was offering me a shawl and sarong for a small fee. I think it’s common practice to cover the shoulders and legs in any sacred place, it certainly is in Europe as far as I know, but there’s never a clothing rental assistant to set things right.
As you can see, the combination of rich colour was fabulous and I was the belle of the mountain. I felt a little bashful, as I would never suppose to enter a place of worship dressed in the smallest (and pretty much the only) pair of shorts I own coupled with a vest. I had been caught out, hence my noticeable embarrassment in the photograph.
Apologies for all the technical difficulties over the past days, the analoguegirl server was ‘throwing a wobbly’ and the mess was again attended to by the ever-impressive Simon; displaying wordpress prowess once more. Thanks again!
