(Project B: Glasgow, Scotland)

You might remember that in early September, my bathroom looked like a bit of a mess. As you can see from the two images above, we haven’t really moved on terribly far from that initial starting point, or so it might seem. What has in fact occurred is that the bathroom has taken over almost every aspect of my existence for exactly two months. To explain, the image on the left was taken the night I arrived back from Berlin – exactly a week ago. The floor had been actively and completely torn away (where for the past six weeks it has been passively falling away) and along with it, a metre or so of the wall had been entirely removed, leaving the structural wooden studs surrounded by air. That’s also the reason that I have temporarily lost a flatmate – the corner of her room is what we can see between those studs! This was our overnight toilet situation – so as you can imagine, a pretty hair raising event each time one needs to relieve oneself. I have been been slightly dehydrated for days due to my toilet being in such a state.

The right hand image was taken today – we have a floor and wall, but as yet, not much else. We now have no door, so toilet time has an added sense of risk about it – precariously balancing a sheet of plasterboard across the doorway to hide our ablutions. I am however delighted with this situation and hope that it heralds the beginning of the end for ‘Project B’, as the bathroom has become known. There were a couple of minor setbacks to the sudden easy ride yesterday – the boiler is leaking and the water stopcocks in the bathroom have also started leaking. How these things have occurred and also eluded us till now, I have no idea. My bathroom is fast becoming soaked in infamy – ‘The Black Hole of Buccleuch’. During the coming days, the gas man will arrive – again – to fix all the remaining leakages and the builder will be back to work his tiling, sawing and plumbing magic in this odious room.

On a slightly sillier note, for those of you that haven’t yet experienced the Analogue Girl Hallowe’en countdown, here’s a link to twenty zombies I drew, one every day, that brought us from the beginning of October right up to the spookiest day of the year. It concluded on the 31st with a nasty doubly undead Dracula. Don’t have nightmares about zombies. Or your toilet disintegrating.

– Today Rosie is working to the sound of sawing, drilling and possibly cursing in Glasgow, Scotland
