(Pete in the toilet: The Chedi Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand)
This morning, Pete and I embarked on a four-day trip to Chiang Mai in the North of Thailand. Since I’m here for a couple of weeks, it seems enough time to make another journey to visit more new places. Pete is showering in the hotel room and we have only just managed to calm down after news was delivered that the minibar, a massage, champagne breakfasts and evening cocktails are all complimentary. I had to hold back from reaffirming these facts, in my t shirt and shorts, I feel quite undeserving of such attention.
The image above perhaps conveys the style of some of the interior elements of the room. Pete’s face is visible as a reflection in the mirror and his hand on the opaque glass door of the toilet. Obviously the room is designed for a couple, but Pete and I will have to remember not to wander about too much whilst one of us is using the toilet or shower which use the same sliding glass door, otherwise the view may be rather intimate. Why there is a transparent glass partition between the loo and shower, I cannot fathom. Even within the familiarity of a couple, I can’t imagine that one would sit in the lavatory with a clear view of the other using the shower. Whatever happened to decency? I suppose it is to preserve and enhance the natural light and features of the space, but we still laughed heartily upon discovering the observation windows in the bathroom area.
