Posing in Milano

(Posing in front of a bust of conductor, Victor de Sabata in La Scala: Milan, Italy)

I know, I know, this space is usually dedicated to China meeting Rosie, but this time, I wanted to fill you in with Rosie meets Milan. I met Ying there for a brief spell between work and meetings there and it was amazing to see him. Long distance (as I’m sure you’re aware) is a difficult thing indeed, but I hope it is a short-term arrangement.

Ying took this photograph of me in the world famous La Scala theatre – we popped in for a whirlwind look around and managed to make time for a few posed photographs. I enjoyed my time in Milan very much, though there was not too much time for discoveries, like the ones I make in China. All I noticed was that the ladies there favour dresses with a frequency incomparable with the UK and that in general, there isn’t an awful lot of smiling going on.

Strangest of all things we discovered was that whilst walking along near the Colonne, we thought we could se one of our mutual Italian friends, Guido. There he was; I was expected to be in Glasgow, Ying in China and we expected him to be in London. It was miraculous that we could all be on the same street, at the same time, in the same city where none of us were supposed to be. I love Europe for that. I have bumped into old friends on the streets of London, found my family GP sitting on a wall in Venice and now this. We spent much of the following day in his company – a local, showing us around.

– Today Rosie is in the UK, now back from Italy –
