Pocket fun

(”The Tiny Wee Pocket Theatre”: Glasgow, UK)

All I’ve seen of the world these past few days is the interior of my flat. Inclement weather has been battering both Glasgow and me for some time – I think there has been one dry day in the last fortnight. After gearing up for Friday’s Guy Fawkes night fireworks (which did have a spectacular finale), as soon as I became well enough to graft at my desk again on Saturday, I began work on this: my tiny wee pocket theatre. I’m showing it to you because it has been the focus of pretty much all my attention for three days so that I can submit it for a London Christmas event. I do lead quite an exciting life!

As well as the characters you can see here, there is also a robot, a headless horseman, a businessman and a dragon. If you’d like to see them, there are a couple more images here. I think the more scope there is for fun filled fantasy in everyone’s life, the better.  I think most of us could certainly create a variety of entertaining, mildly perilous and quite silly shows without much effort. Perhaps someone under twelve years old might have slightly more time to use it. I’m marketing it as a very simple, cheap gift – all you need to create the theatre is a spare 5 minutes*, a pair of scissors and some imagination. There are even two tiny wee tickets included so you can invite people to come to your show. I suppose it’s rather telling that there are only two but I imagined a parental audience might enjoy a night at the theatre, courtesy of their child in the comfort of their own home, even if it’s not quite as romantic as the real thing.

I shall regale you wit more interesting tales tomorrow, but it’s rest time now for a little while. I’m going to curl up with a hot water bottle and a cup of something hot – I’ve not even completely well, but a deadline is a deadline.

*Alright – depending on how handy you are with a pair of scissors, it could be ten minutes!
