Notes notes notes
(Notes for me: Suzhou, China)
Upon returning to China and to the apartment, I discovered that Ying’s mum had left notes for both of us all over the flat. There were notes in the fridge and in the cupboard, none of which Ying has paid any attention to (I’m sorry to say). I’ve spent the past days discovering each note in turn and absorbing their contents, it’s a very useful move on the part of her as I honestly wouldn’t have a clue what to do with some things in our kitchen. There’s a bag of dried shrimp in the fridge – what’s a western girl to do? Thankfully the note indicated what to do (wash, then put in a variety of dishes.
Here’s my favourite pair of notes on a tub of yellow flower tea; “For Rosie, may use for tea” and a follow up note, “Warning! Ying does not like it”. It’s possibly one of the most useful notes as the tea is very much an acquired taste. I find it quite sweet and botanical tasting but I can see that not everyone will share my opinion. It also makes the water turn a kind of nicotine yellow, which is a little offputting too.

This flower adds flavour to tea or drink (e.g. soybean milk) or even cake. Ying was crazy about soybean milk, but once I addded a pinch of it into the soybean milk, he refused even a sip, so I had to finish the whole lot.
I didn’t want both of you went through the same experience, thus the warning was written.
that’s really cute! hahaha
