Not, repeat NOT
(Not a children’s play area near the Thames walkway: London, UK)
In order to understand this situation a little more, the text on the white sign reads
‘THIS IS NOT A
CHILDRENS
PLAY AREA’
Alright, so we still don’t understand. What it was, in actual fact, I have no idea, except I was aware that it was definitely not a children’s play area. It had no flowers in it, nor seeds, or really anything at all. It just appeared to be a giant cat litter tray just full of pale grey grit.
I was slightly too slow in producing my camera as the boy in red in the background had run towards the litter tray, squealing with delight, only to be told by his parents that he was headed towards something that was not a play area. Evidently without the sign, the space would be filled with kiddies, happily churning around in the soil and pebbles. As you can see, the boy in question is being consoled by his mother – grit is seemingly indistinguishable to the under tens from a playground. Perhaps this is rather revealing about the state of public amenities for youngsters in London.
