(Fruit salad: Suzhou, China)

Very brief today as I am going on a lone day trip to Shanghai*. My friend Susan (my first ever Chinese teacher) will be there and all I have to do is get there. I have my magic piece of paper that Ying kindly wrote out for me in case I get completely foxed and I am doubly armed with my Chinese notebooks just I case. Courage, man!

I thought you’d enjoy a peek at the fruit salad I had a couple of weeks ago. It contained some of the usual suspects; apple, yes. Pear, yes. Melon, yes. It was completely fine until that point, that is when I noticed the glace cherries, yes, I suppose they are a kind of preserved fruit. Tomatoes? Well, again, if one wishes to split hairs, they are technically a fruit. Marshmallows… mm, definitely not a fruit. Admittedly it was served in a Mexican themed place, but I don’t think Mexicans are that keen on marshmallows – perhaps I’m wrong. I was almost alarmed by the marshmallows as much as the goo served as an accompaniment – I think it was just milk and banana blended together, but I chose to keep my salad as additive free as possible. Anyway, I don’t even like marshmallow.
