Low winter sun
(View from the A9 road: somewhere near Aviemore, UK)
I’m currently on the train ‘home home’ (a way of describing one’s family home in English – I’m not sure if any other language has the same eccentricity). I have a home in Glasgow where I live most of the time, where all my effects are, where I work, and then there’s home home, where I come from; my home town and family.
This is yet another snowy picture – it is one of the few that doesn’t look cold though. Funnily enough, although I didn’t spend any time preparing the shot or working out a nice composition, it came out well anyway. I especially like the little fir tree basking in the low winter sunshine. There was no chance to plan photographs much, as we leapt out of the toasty car for a few short minutes to seize a snap or two. Each time we exited the car, we had to steel ourselves for the shock of the cold. Even the car suffered a little – we left a two litre water bottle and a carton of milk in the car overnight and both were completely solid in the morning. Even the net curtains of our hotel rooms were frozen to the condensation on the window; such is the cold here in Scotland.
The weather has already caused massive disruption to travelers going home for Christmas, my Gran has arguably been a victim, though I hope the revised plan of her spending Christmas with us will be just as fun as Plan A. She was supposed to travel to the South of England to see my uncle and his family, but since the snow and ice has prevented most internal flights, Carlisle is more attainable as far as travel from Glasgow is concerned. We must all be on our best behaviour now; we may have to curb some of the silly games and general raucousness a little bit so that she can fall asleep in an armchair and pretend to watch period dramas in relative peace.
– Today Rosie is preparing for Christmas in Carlisle, UK –

lovely pic, excellent composition. If you did it without thinking then you’ve definitely developed your ‘eye’.
