Kung Fu
(Ying paying homage with his meal at ‘Kung Fu’)
If there were a Chinese version of McDonald’s, what would it be called? And who would be the mascot? The answer is Kung Fu and Bruce Lee! I was amazed that such a place even existed, and for it to have such a hilariously predictable name and logo was just so special.
When we walked in, it was immediately apparent that it was exactly like any Western fast food place, but Asian. We ordered a coke with our rice-based meals; it was completely surreal. Instead of a cartoon montage of Ronald McDonald and his pals, there was a huge mural of Bruce Lee in a vest. The colours of interior decoration were yellow and black (like Lee’s famous suit) with a background of red, and a grimacing Lee is printed on every item of crockery.
What I like about Kung Fu is that apart from the drinks and chopsticks, there’s no packaging at all – you can see that everything is served in melamine dishes and aluminium. Also, while I had to wait for my order to be cooked, Ying’s meal was already steaming and ready to go by the time we’d finished paying. The verdict: lots of fun. However, you get what you pay for, it’s alright and it’s a novelty but I don’t think we’ll be repeating it.

oh yes, both of you better don’t repeat it. Like the pearl tea, i believe, this is a novelty to the mainland Chinese. ( But i am too conservative to accept them.) Pearl tea is a novelty exported from Taiwan, it was quite a popular drink in Singapore for a while few years ago.
Mmmmm….we have it everyday, breakfast, lunch and dinner! And wash it down with pearl tea (extra pearls)! I’ll ensure that you don’t miss out when you come visit!
hey, this is zeng-kung-fu* where else can you get a complete meal of carbohydrates, meat, vegetables and soup?
