King of pop

(Standing next to poster for a Michael Jackson tribute night: it was organized the day the news arrived)

This first week has been thrilling enough without the added bizarre twist of Michael Jackson’s sudden demise.  We woke up at 6.30am in the hotel on Friday and switched on the television for the news.  Every news channel was playing the same scenes, showing the same pictures, telling the same story; BBC, CNN, Channel Asia.  It’s a shame there’s so many complications with the aftermath, I feel for his family and children most of all.  It was a shock, but with extra bite for us; Ying, two friends and myself have tickets for his show in London next month.  Or rather, we did.  It’s amazing how even here, he’s become an overnight news sensation and everyone is talking about it.  I can only imagine that the reaction is more extreme in the UK and the US!  We ended up at this tribute night in the evening, but it cannot begin to make up for such a disappointment.
