Jazzy jackets
(Mum and Auntie Jane, replete in the garden: Carlisle, England)
There was a closer shot of the jackets, but the faces were not as entertaining as here. Jane has managed to look delightfully, well, delighted and my mum is haranguing her from the side. Judging by Jane’s expression, the comment must have been amusing, possibly at my expense. The jackets have been much admired and the pair are all too ready to launch into a tale of how they were made and where they were from. The answer; by hand and in the famed silk town of Suzhou.
They look smashing – I was so relived that they turned out well and not overly dramatic. In the silk shop, the rolls of fabric are difficult to judge and translate into a wearable, serviceable wardrobe item – it is easy to become seduced by a striking silk design, only to realise that it is far too jazzy and difficult to wear. Not so with these jackets – I hope to see them doing the rounds for some time to come.
If my mother doesn’t look her best in this photo, she should be pleased that her carefully tended back garden looks truly resplendent in this image. I tried to quell the desire to make comment about three gargoyles in the garden, but it was too much to hold back.
