Is it a dream?

(The new bathroom and its many uses: Glasgow, Scotland)

PROJECT B IS COMPLETE!

Finally, I have my life back! It only took seventy-eight days, a complicated insurance claim and my near nervous breakdown, but we finally have project completion. I intend to write ‘Project Management skills’ on the next draft of my CV. The first time I pushed the flush button on the new toilet cistern, it sounded to me like a chorus of angels. I have been in a daze of euphoria each time I am asked, “so – any news on the bathroom?” I am delighted each time; the novelty of gaining a room in the flat – and with it the privacy, the running warm water, the wipe clean surfaces! It’s almost too much to take in. For a few days there, I truly believed it would never be over, even my firm enthusiasm for optimism was waning. The final straw was the door debacle I mentioned n my last post, but that too has been installed, adding a touch of holiness and peace to the flat.

Like myself, you may have forgotten how and when this all began. Well, there was the initial week that we imagined the project would take, then there was the realisation that we had hit a major snag, then a lot of to-ing and fro-ing that brings us up to the present. At least we have gained some mod cons in the extended process; a window, spotlights, a heated towel rail, an electric shower, two cabinets (it feels obscene to have so much storage) and even some space for plants. I am counting this entire project as a delayed, but certified win.

As usual with these lengthy, difficult projects, I have crashed. No sooner had I shipped the last fragments of broken tiles and splintered wood off to the dump, I was forced to take an uncharacteristic hour-long pre-lunch nap. With that final journey to jettison the remnants of the old bathroom, the end of Project B had officially been reached. With that concluding moment, I fell like a rotten tree. I have been fighting off exhaustion for about a week now (hence a lack of communication here) as work, travel and social pressures mount up. I managed to stagger home yesterday morning and dive into bed before continuing to work. I treated myself to a further lie in this morning to aid my recovery as I can feel myself on the cusp of becoming ill. Luckily, I will have a delightful place to take a hot shower and recover.

As you can see, the bathroom is conducive to a range of activities; amongst them ironing, solitaire, sleeping, working, yoga (or a pretense) and having a celebratory glass of port, courtesy of Stef, my flatmate an official photographer. It’s also quite good for toilet using and showering. I’ve gone GIF crazy recently (that’s the type of animated picture you see above) as I’ve realised that I can show many of my bathroom related antics in the one post. Plus, I’ve got some exciting images coming up in the next few days so stay tuned…
