Here comes the sun!
(L-R: View to Glasgow University with children’s slide in foreground, people relaxing in the park: Glasgow, Scotland)
I called my mum last night and the very first thing she said to me was, “There was no post today.” For a second, I thought she was referring to mail, but she meant that I had neglected my blogging duties. I have to admit that for one of the very few times, or perhaps the only time, I completely forgot to write anything. Well, I remembered a little past 1am and then made a mental not to do it first thing when I woke up. I need to work on my mental notation skills.
Anyway, I am putting up two pictures today to make up for it. One drawn, the other a photograph. This one is a double shot of Glasgow enjoying a sudden burst of warmth yesterday – if you recall, only last week it was blowing a blizzard. Compare the march mayhem (http://china.analoguegirl.co.uk/snow-nae-mair/) with the image of yesterday’s sun kissed Kelvingrove Park. It was one of those single stunning days that will be etched on my memory in the chilly weeks that are no doubt to come. Britain manages to withhold these splendid mild days until we least expect them, then the days are released, not all together as one brilliant week, but as brief, dazzling sunbursts crowning a set of unremarkable days.
The park was quickly filling with people; families with toddlers, students kicking footballs, people tightrope walking, juggling, playing guitars and drums. Alright, it isn’t Woodstock in the ‘60s but it is a slice of Glasgow Summer in the Spring. As soon as there is the slightest whisper of a sunny day, boys shirts are off and tucked into pockets, girls discard their jackets and cardigans, allowing their skin to touch the very first lukewarm rays of Spring. I was still in my winter jacket, sitting on the cool, dry grass, within earshot of the fountain, newly switched on and spraying glittery droplets into the blue. I was glad to have the freedom to enjoy some of the unseasonal daylight, despite having a busy day. Anyway, hopefully I’ll get a chance to update over the weekend… from London…
