Happy wedding times

(The wedding dinner commences. Back- front and L-R: Chris, Franki, Ying and me. Alyn, Simon, Ian and Suzy: Milngavie, Scotland)

I found this image on Ying’s camera, though as you can see, he can’t take all the credit for it since he was in the photo himself. Although it isn’t a great picture (I shall have to ‘borrow’ some far superior ones from Simon), it is the only one I have seen of all of us. It’s been a long time since these cheery faces have been looking so smart in their best outfits. That also goes for the bride and groom, who as per usual at a wedding, are never around for a chat. Each time they appeared, I couldn’t get to my camera quick enough.

Anyway, the meal was grand – the drink was fairly flowing at this wedding! In fact, I think it was the most drink heavy wedding I’ve ever been to – if we discount the one in Texas, that is. At the weekend, there was practically a bottle of wine per person on every table and there was homemade tablet as wedding favours for every person, not just for the ladies, and there was even a free bar. Despite the abject and heroic generosity of our hosts, the night remained a controlled and enjoyable evening with the minimum of (non ceilidh related) rowdiness. You can see that we’re having a great time from the massive grins on our faces – the anticipation of a fine meal, wine and dancing was too much to handle. I do love a wedding.

Yesterday’s news was high winds! I took a video so that you could experience the full force of it – I stayed inside all day, except for a brief foray out to a fitness class before 9am. I felt daring. Since then, torrential rain has given way to gale force 100mph winds that are whizzing down all the chimneys and buffeting the windows with such force, I fear the glass will crack. I hear that cars have been mashed in half by fallen trees, greenhouses and shelters have been ripped apart and lampposts have buckled in these high winds. The video isn’t very thrilling as videos go, but it does manage to show the violence of today’s Scottish weather. You can hear the wind about halfway through. Enjoy here!
