Happy travellers
(Auntie Jane, Helen (my mum) and me on the Great Wall: Badaling, China)
Since I’m off to celebrate my mum’s birthday today, I thought I’d slip in a post of us having fun in China together. I really like this picture, especially the expression on my mother’s face – I think I was pretty wobbly and had prevented myself from falling over. As you can see, her maternal instincts are kicking in, she hasn’t flinched and is laughing heartily at me.
One of the other passengers on our coach took this photograph and I think he did a fantastic job of capturing enough of the background to illustrate that the wall towers above the surrounding landscape, but also encapsulates the general meandering steepness of the wall itself. An admission; we did perhaps accentuate the slope by all leaning to one side, hence my unsteadiness at this moment. I also picked this particular image because it depicts my aunt in a slightly more favourable light than yesterday. She looks to be the only one acting sensibly.
– Today Rosie is on a road trip to Carlisle for her mum’s birthday –
