HAPPY FIVE HUNDREDTH!

(WORLD MEETS ROSIE FIVE HUNDRED)

That’s right, this is the five hundredth post, so forgive me for being overly indulgent, but it feels like a massive milestone! I spent much of today planning, researching and then drawing out my numbers. I lay awake in bed last night and realised I would have to celebrate and mark it somehow, and it seemed natural to create something. This drawing is comprised (as you may have surmised already) of many of the images from the past posts; some from the original destination of China, and some from other countries I’ve had the good fortune to visit over the course of this project – so far.

Would you like some stats? You’re getting them anyway!

- world meets rosie (formerly china meets rosie) has had 500 posts today.

- It has been running for almost one year and nine months.

- It documents time spent in eight different countries (four of which I’d never been to before, all on a personally unexplored continent). Should you wish to know which ones, they are China, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Germany, Italy and The Netherlands.

- More specifically, I have stayed in the following cities and areas (in no particular order); Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, Bali, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Berlin, Sächsische Schweiz, London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Milan and because of a volcano ash affected flight, Amsterdam.

- world meets rosie has racked up almost 500 images and almost 115000 words.

There’s so much more! I’ve eaten so many things I never dreamed I would; I’m slightly ashamed to admit yes to dog and live prawns, though I wouldn’t do so again. I’ve had two Chinese New Year celebrations in the traditional family manner, drank a few tins of Kickapoo Joyjuice and a Singapore Sling in the Raffles Hotel, seen the wonders of the Great Wall and Beijing, experienced the mysticism of Thailand and neighbouring Indonesia, eaten more KLM in-flight meals than I care to recall, seen the Gobi desert from the air, danced until 6am in a London bar, learned (elements of) a completely new language, was given a new name, and all because initially I accompanied Ying to a new job in China. I owe him a lot, so this is also a thank you to him for four years together. Without him and the support of my avid, dedicated readers – you know who you are – this would have floundered long ago. So thank you.

OK, it’s not an Oscar speech, so I’ll sign off now and stop babbling. Enjoy. You can see each letter in more detail on my illustration site or on ‘analogue girl illustration’ at facebook.
