Double take

(Kelvingrove Park: Glasgow, Scotland)

I thought that Thursday was busy in the park, but look at this! Compare the last two posts and you’ll see they were taken from the same spot on two consecutive days. Yesterday was a very busy day of engagement for me; firstly, going to Suzy and Ian’s house to watch them bicker about the Royal wedding. Another of their friends, Kate was there and she and Suzy ensued to make comment on every aspect of Will and Kate’s wedding proceedings to the great amusement of Ian and I. They wee very entertaining and though I had not planned to watch the heavily hyped affair, it was perfectly viable entertainment for an hour or two.

Next up was a Chinese lunch with ‘seven dumplings’ Susan and Ben. We ate in a new café that boasts a couple of chef’s from her northern Chinese hometown. It was delicious but quite salty, rendering us all very thirsty afterwards. We then took a turn in the park that by this time was awash with revelers; two DJs had turned up to play music that we could feel about a kilometre away. There were literally thousands of people there and the park was also crawling with police officers. At one point I could see three police vans, a police helicopter and about 20-30 officers patrolling the crowds. Apparently it all got rather drunken and violent by about 5pm, but at 3pm, everything was going rather well. There was a stunning atmosphere and everybody seemed happy and not particularly inebriated.

Another friend is moving away to Vietnam soon and is clearing her house. She had an early evening party to get shot of her worldly belongings. I walked away after meeting some lovely people, clutching a pith helmet, a few books and a jigsaw. I was very pleased. I staggered away from this feeling a little hungry and fatigued to my final engagement of the day, a movie with Joy and Ellie. Of course, it involved a pit stop for food and a journey across town. I must have covered at least ten miles just moving from centre to north west to west west to centre to east to far west again and back to centre. It was a long, enjoyable and wonderful day off!
