Dance dance dance

Another busy weekend has given way to a busy week. Saturday was jam packed from start to finish; Ying and I started at 11:30am with a cinema trip, despite our afternoon appointment taking my Gran to the theatre. The local cinema (GFT) was showing one of my very favourite films in a ‘once only’ showing situation. Ying was not so enamoured of the long and bizarre children’s film, Terry Gilliam’s The Adventures of Baron Munchausen through which, and as a result of, I have spent many a happy hour. It is a film that my entire family has always enjoyed together and I love it. The timing of the showing was poor for us, but this was not insurmountable – we has about forty minutes to get from the closing credits at the cinema to the opening curtain at the theatre.
Ying had been slightly comatose through some of the film, but I believe he enjoyed The Sound of Music much more, along with my Gran and two other friends, John and Seonaid. I was relieved at this, as my Gran can be difficult to please, she tires easily at her age and often the storylines of big productions are lost to her. Luckily, this story is an enduring classic that she is familiar with. It also contains several themes that she is familiar with; the Second World War, classic romance and many, many nuns. It was enjoyed by all – even me. I was definitely more excited about the cinema, but the theatre show was spectacular.
From here, Gran decided she was too tired to join us for a meal, so we all waited for her bus, made sure she made it on without any error. The elderly lady just after my Gran had to be scraped off the bus step by me after a fall – it was lucky someone was on hand to assist; she seemed alright though I imagine she’ll be very bruised today. We then tripped over to a nearby pub for some drinks and the evening’s entertainment was born; the afternoon were drinks were conducive to an atmosphere of revelry and we all decided to go out dancing. Post dinner, and post impromptu gathering at my flat, a small and merry band of miscreants made their way to the ABC club. That is where this picture was taken; don’t worry, all consumption of alcohol was within reasonable limits. Just about. Ying and I went home, made a second dinner and watched a Louis Theroux documentary about Miami’s prison system.
On Sunday, my family descended on us since it was my mum’s birthday. We pretty much spent the entire day eating! A fine use of a birthday, in my opinion. As soon as they left in the early evening – unsurprisingly – Ying and I fell fast asleep from a fatigued, jam-packed weekend. We awoke in just enough time to make another meal and drift off again. Apologies for the sporadic posting these past days, but in all seriousness, I have had absolutely no time to do anything else but work and socialise.
It’s a hard life.
