Crazy lasers
(View looking East over Jinji Lake: SIP, Suzhou)
Lasers seem to appear atop any building above a certain height in China, especially near a lake, park or tourist spot. This is the lake near where we currently live and it is luminous every night as soon as there is a whiff of dusk. The colours beam out in sequences over the water and the islands on it; there is one small island in the centre that is permanently radiating dancing light late into the night. There is even a boat in the evenings sporting a gigantic screen playing adverts on a loop. It looks like an enormous and strange floating television. We just laughed.
What you can see on the right of the image is an illuminated wavy building in sky blue; this is an event hall with exhibitions, cinema, theatre and various galleries and undoubtedly more. It was here that we saw an exhibition about SIP (Singapore / Suzhou Industrial Park, where we reside) with an enormously detailed architectural model of the entire area. We could look into our own flat and finally attempt to comprehend the scale of the new city. Needless to say, the boundaries seem to be expanding almost exponentially by the look of the future plans.
