Crab soup
(A surprise in the soup)
You often hear stories of people finding unexpected items in their food in restaurants, or you might recall the Indiana Jones film with the sheep’s eyes in the soup. This isn’t quite that dramatic, but I was a bit startled to discover a tiny crab in my fish soup. The even bigger surprise? We were at home. We bought some small dried fish to put in various concoctions, and one of us didn’t wash the fish well enough. Let’s just say that I was preparing the vegetables.
The crab was on my spoon before I spotted it, and I was lucky to see it amongst all the other ingredients. Initially I was worried we killed it by cooking it, but I have since found another in the fish package. I must assume that one of us munched his legs though, since they were missing.
We bought the fish from a Korean shop near home, stacked with all sorts of strange items including a Kellogs cereal made with sesame seeds with blackened flakes that look like dried mushrooms. It tastes quite all right, but turns the milk grey and slightly unappetising. There are many Korean shops in this area, making us think there must be quite a large Korean population here. One place is a chilled tea spot called “Du-Du” but everything there tastes a bit nasty so it has earned the name.

are you cooking korean food as well? spicy food is no good for the skin.
a tasty little whole dried crab, what a suprise!
No, it wasn’t spicy at all! We’ve been very good – they were just little dried fish with extra crustaceans!
