Chocks away!

(Me, Suzy and Ian on the piste: Aviemore, UK)

Shortly after Ying took this photograph, we headed down the slopes together, stopping occasionally to regroup. At one point on these slopes, there is a section called ‘the gun barrel’ and it basically looks like a half pipe with steep sides and a very narrow flattish area between them. All I heard was Ian behind me shouting “Rosie! We’re in trouble! We’re in trouble!”* and then I felt my skis catch on something and I felt Ian shunt me from behind at speed, pushing me directly off the piste and up over a bank. I think I had time enough to yelp, cover my eyes (I know, it’s pathetic) before we lost momentum and we careened into heavier snow and braked by both falling over in a tangle of gore-tex and carbon fibre. No one was hurt, but it was a hair raising moment for both of us. We spent the following couple of minutes attempting to figure out what had actually happened. Ian had been too ‘gung ho’ and had simply been unable to stop before mashing into me.

Hardly the après ski of the Alps, we traipsed into the little café at the bottom of the slopes for some lunch, during which I managed to tip hot soup over my hat, phone and much of the table. I must commend Ying on his reflexes – I grabbed the cup and hat whilst he snatched the soupy phone off the table and (in the absence of tissues) actually sucked the soup off the phone, preventing further damage. Aside from the repeated and intermittent screen message,  “This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone”, the phone appears to have survived remarkably well.

*or expletives to the same effect.

This is today’s second post – make sure you’ve seen the other one too! This is 2 of 2.
