China visa
(My visa for this entry -with appropriate omissions)
This morning, I begin my journey to the East a second time, but this time alone. I’ve never flown on my own for such a long flight so this journey will be extra special. Aside from my last entry into China, I have also never had a visa before. It was a great feeling having a stamp in my passport and papers stuck in; it felt very official, much more than New York last year. The passport control was a burly Brooklyn wall of a man who reassuringly fitted snugly into every British person’s American stereotype.
I thought I’d let you see the visa because I think it’s amazing. It has occurred to me that all visas may be impressive, but this one is the only one with the Great Wall etched beneath all the details. Apologies if this post seems rather dull, but visas are exciting pieces of paper – much more important than money – and I’ve never seen my name on one before. Hopefully I’ll sail through customs with this and hopefully I won’t be running a temperature during any part of the trip; that could lead to immediate Swine flu quarantine.
