(Truck on an elevated road in Suzhou. Aside from it’s regular load, it is carrying the red cabin of an articulated lorry, but it is not secured to the truck)
Yesterday whilst traveling into a small town an hour from Suzhou, I saw yet another example of the barely sensible ‘driving with goods’ phenomenon. Above you can see how crazy it can get, though we didn’t get a photo of our favourite cargo so far; a full size tree. It was strapped to a truck with half of it’s bulk hanging off the back, it’s leafy branches scraping the road at 100kmph (60mph). There was a man standing in the back of the truck, one hand resting on the tree, as if to steady its enormous mass. Yesterday I saw an electric scooter with a sheep tied to the back. At first I assumed it was a carcass, strapped on with it’s feet bound with two pieces of rope. As the scooter crossed the junction in front of us, the sheep opened it’s mouth and began to bleat into the oncoming traffic.

D’you reckon they transport the sheep to the abattoir one at a time?
Really enjoying the blog – lovely pictures and great descriptions. Looking forward to the next installment!

Something tells me in that case, the sheep had it’s own personal abattoir, and the butcher was probably driving the moped.
