(Yoga practice; not my finest portrait)

My body seems to find adjusting here rather problematic; perhaps it is my openness with food experimentation or the weather that makes me feel strange. Yesterday my lunch made it very clear it wasn’t happy staying where it was, so I’m taking today in my stride for fear I’ll suffer at the hands of my food once more! So today I am starting yoga lessons again. I began to practice a little yoga before I left Suzhou in July and today I feel like my body has adjusted back almost enough to return to it. I say this simply because I find the whole process quite taxing! The yoga teacher insists on the air conditioning being turned off before and during the lesson, so the atmosphere of the room reaches busy laundrette level, then rainforest, then a heady, dizzying sauna. This results, of course, in vastly flushed cheeks and almost unacceptable amounts of perspiration, hence I opted for black yoga kit. On one occasion, I was attempting to fold myself in half and I found my face suddenly intimately acquainted with my knees which I have never before seen sweating large beads of liquid.

On the up side, until now the simple act of touching my toes (with straight legs) has eluded me, yet after a week or so being bent out of shape by an Indian yogi, I could do it easily. I must admit though, I just tried and I can’t quite manage, but a couple of lessons this week and once again, I’ll be the master of my own toes.
